    Question Is Silverchair any good?

The first time I heard of Silverchair was a couple years ago and it was their son "Straight Lines". I absolutely hated that song. Recently I found out that back in the early 90's they were a post-grunge band. That put a smile on my face. So could anybody recommend me some Silverchair songs from early on in their career.

i actually didn't know silverchair went on past their 2nd album, much less go on to apparently change their sound...

here's their big single from their first album...

i always thought they sucked hard, but i could see some people here appreciating it. if i recall, there were a few other songs on that album that my grungy friends liked, but i haven't heard these guys since high school.

Not too bad. The singer sounds like a wannabe Eddie Vedder though. I think they need to find their own sound. Not very unique. Their not terrible but their not "whoa their amazing".

If you want some songs from their first 2 albums to check out, I'd go with the following...

    From FROGSTOMP:
    -Tomorrow
    -Israel's Son
    -Pure Massacre
    -Shade

    From FREAK SHOW:
    -Freak
    -Abuse Me
    -No Association
    -The Door
    -Learn to Hate

    No.
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

I remember reading interviews with them back in their heyday where they went off on how much they loved American indie rock, and were all about big black/shellac/fugazi, etc...

If they moved their sound to something more like that and not...er...Nirvana Jr. it might be interesting to see what they sound like 10+ years later...

    I find this thread hilarious.
If anyone knows anything about Silverchair, it's us Aussies.

You all don't realise that when they started out they were only 16 years old... of course they're gonna sound like a rip-off of Nirvana, because that's exactly when they started out, in the grunge era, with the likes of Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains.

We Australians all love 'em some way or another... I find that Diorama was their best album. It was around then that they finally matured and found their own sound.

Nowadays I don't really like the path they're taking... they seem too much like a Coldplay kinda band now, but they're still somewhat unique.

Tracks from Diorama that I love:

The Greatest View - (example of the different direction they were taking)

One Way Mule - (starts around 0:40)

Tuna In The Brine - (this was around when they started finding their own unique sound)

The Lever - (****ing love this song, the breakdown is sick!)
