I'm not playing dumb, half people here believe classic rock is not really a genre and if you asked me, I don't know what my answer would be. Is ELP classic rock because they were popular in the 60's/70's era?

    So... what is classic rock?
It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now.

It isn't a genre, but rather a lose grouping of artists that get hype for being great such as Zepp, Hendrix, Guns 'n' Roses. It's really just arbritary what is and isn't CR, because it doesn't exist.
Well, everyone, prepare to have your guts kicked out by folk singers...

Yeah cLOUDDEAD is a lot more ambient and hard to get into. Subtle has some parts of their songs like that but overall they more "full" sounding songs that focus more on melodic indie pop than rap, much like Why?

I can't really think of anything else like that sounds like Why?. I guess the new TV on the Radio sort of has some of the same kind of musical ideas. And maybe it'd be worth checking out El-P and Dalek--they both have some similar type beats, though they have a much "harder" rap style than Why?.

i've heard some dalek stuff that was alright. i'd like to hear them focus a little more on their "weirder" material.

What's a good starting place? I'm thinking something very obvious... possibly the Roots or Run DMC? As far as I know, I've never heard anything from either.

i'd say early run dmc's a perfect starting point. the roots would probably work too, though i'm not really a fan.

Personally I love some EL-P which is part of the modern movement of restoring hip hop to its former glory.

Saul Williams is pretty good if you can get past the blatant and intrusive production job that Reznor did on Niggy Tardust.
