Other than some of the more obvious choices, I am a particular fan of the lyrics of Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) and Joe Strummer (The Clash).

Without a doubt, it's Jim Steinman, followed closely by Bernie Taupin.

    Yeah, Joni Mitchell is cool.

Lol, he didn't only write The Wall. But he hated Margarett Thatcher.
    So it could be
"Margarett Thatcher is an overgrown infant pig" into infinity.

Martin Walkyier of Sabbat and Skyclad is the greatest Metal lyricist the world will ever know.

I'd have to say Beck for the variety and quality of his lyrics, but there's so many great lyricists out there that it's hard to choose just one.
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

Daron Malakian is my choice due to all his political and historical lyrics.

Thom Yorke--Radiohead: Just a really bizarre and funny guy with deep/funny/powerfu lyrics

Bruce Springsteen--Bruce Springsteen: The way he can tell stories in his songs, while keeping them catchy and tuneful is an art. Jungleland makes me tear up.

Ian Anderson--Jethro Tull: Another great storyteller and funny guy. He has some good messages in his songs. Thick as A Brick is a work of art. An epic poem.
