I've only heard one song by Nightwish, and I hated it (Over the Hills and Far Away). But now that I've seen all the praise I'll check em out.

I've been a nightwish fan since "century child" and eventually got all their albums. They really have a pretty unique turn in their music over the years. They haven't got worse as a band but in effect just different. Their odler stuff remains very true to powermetal. WHile their newer meterial is more rock than metal at times but still very good music. The new singer annette(replacing Tarja) rebalcnes teh vocals with being able to sing in multiple styles and yet still have they quality voice nightwish is known for(she gives up the thuinderous power tarja has). But yeah I've been requesting nightwish songs for rock band for a while. Ghost love score is one of my favorite songs ever but is a bit overlong for RB(there's about a full minute in a half of orchestral build up right in the middle of the song). SO I usually request planet hell or something from a bit earlier. Amaranth would be a great choice for the latest incarnation of the band.
I'm skipping reading the thread for an opinionated statement - Nightwish has sucked ever since they kicked out Tarja. They were hit and miss (IMO) to begin with, but now...
I would easily pay 5x the standard rate for a 3 song Nightwish DLC or *drool* the entire Century Child album.
I agree. I would pay through the nose to get the Century Child album, and (close your eyes, Verratensie) since I'm a female singer, I'm clearly either delusional regarding my abilities or deserving of my name.
But in general, I was rather disappointed by Rock Band's lack of female-fronted bands. They have punk crap up the wazoo, but only a few female vocalists there. Where's Evanescence? Within Temptation? Lacuna Coil? Nightwish? Sirenia? Sad pants.
I dont understand why people say "don't put it in rockband dlc." I mean, at that point, its simply don't download it. They should put as much in as possible - the more songs in the more people in general they could please.
That being said Id download nightwish in a heartbeat - I probably wouldn't check the song titles until after i've started the download, lol. Wishmaster would be amazing, as would Planet Hell, Nemo, Kinslayer, Ever Dream, or End of all Hope.
Well, I really dont like Nightwish at all. In fact I dis-like them.
BUT
That dosent mean there should be no Nightwish DLC. They are a totally valid form of music. As is all the dlc currently available. I think they should have Nightwish dlc, to make the Nightwish fans happy. I doubt anyone will download all the dlc available, if not for financial reason, for reasons of not liking the music. So sure, add Nightwish.
nightwish is a great novelty band and the singing would be great on RB but the music on expert would be like paraniod on easy maybe even easier than that
I don't. You are aware that definitions of pretentious extend to "overly flowery", "ostentatious" and "pompous"? Those seem to be reasonable descriptions of how I view that style of operatic metal.
Besides, it's my opinion not a statement of fact. Secondly, the OP asked for our opinions. Lastly, as I stated, I have no problem with them being in Rock Band. In fact in many ways I think they'd be a perfect fit. I just probably wouldn't buy it.
People just don't understand Nightwish. They assume that those who like/listen to them automatically fit into some type of convenient, goth, pseudo-Evanescence mold. As far as Female singers in metal, theres no question that they can hang. Maybe because this kid is only 14 he doesn't realize that Lita Ford and Joan Jett shattered that preconception almost 30 years ago.
Nightwish garners criticism of pretense by those who just don't get that metal can be both powerful and beautiful.
