I love finding good modern(or recent, to be specific) prog albums.

Do you have any other good recs(any prog genre) from this year?

Wobbler's Afterglow was released this year. Check into it, they're pretty good. From Norway.

I've got a pile of other stuff to sift through from this year alone, so I'll get back to you on that.

Oh yeah, look into Moongarden's new one too, A Vulgar Display of Prog. Italian band.

Two 2009 prog albums that I've really enjoyed are OSI's Blood and Stream of Passion's The Flame Within.

Been wanting to buy that album; the local music store has a copy of the special edition and I keep staring longingly at it whenever I walk in.

How's it stack up to the self-titled? I think Gavin Harrison took drumming duties this time?

Granted, it's been a bit too long since I listened to their self-titled album, but I think I like Blood even more. I'm certainly listening to it more than I ever did to the other album. Blood works better as a full album, I feel, the songs gel together better. Stockholm is probably the standout track of the album for me, with some fantastic guest vocals by Åkerfeldt. The drumming is solid too, even without Portnoy.

Blood is a completely different creature stylistically to the other two albums... I've heard people describe it is a very cold, very atmospheric album, both of which are pretty accurate descriptions (IMO). That being said, it's also fantastic, but in largely different ways than the first album. It's almost like it's a completely different band, but it's still incredible.

Besides the ones mentioned (definitely second The Flame Within and Blood)
    Mastodon - Crack The Skye
Epica is releasing a new album that should be good as well
as well as Atheist's upcoming album
Queensryche - American Soldier (not that bad when I saw them play it live with some graphics of interesting stuff)

If you're going to include upcoming albums, then I think Porcupine Tree's upcoming should be mentioned...

Also, while not specifically prog (more like several different genres, progressive rock being one of the more prominent ones), Devin Townsend's "Ki" would be one to look into.

And Lucassen's new project Guilt Machine. Their tracks sound solid so far. Due out at the end of this month (in Europe, at least).
