New Riverside came out and I'm buying it once my order of the special edition comes in.

Pink Floyd's Prog. material is Animals, Pipers At The Gates Of Dawn, and Meddle (although there may be an album I am forgetting)

Easiest branch band from classic to Modern Prog. for your case I would say is early Porcupine Tree
Damn, and I thought I had the right map this time. Where the **** am I now?

A place in the queue /obviousthetangentreference

Nah, but you are getting the idea (Octavarium is definitely Prog.) try King Crimson's debut In The Court Of The Crimson King and Yes' Fragile to get a good intro to the genre

Better off just digging into Prog on your own, to be honest. Prog isn't something that can be very easily condensed into a few bands, there's so much to it that you'll have to have a good chunk of spare time and an insatiable hunger for new bands to really enjoy it to the fullest.

I guess that's why I got excited, because I was able to put the label to something I've already digested for quite some time. I plan on checking up some of those on the front list plus the 60PB2L2B4UDie thread (except the Mars Volta; already heard them, they sound like ADD in music form to me), so I suppose I'll have a much better idea soon.

EDIT: Duh, I forgot about Zappa!! I need to give We're Only In It For the Money another listen, it's been too long.

I really think you should dive into the Swedish scene at some point; two of the most important bands of the Symphonic Prog scene (Änglagård and Kaipa) come from Sweden, and both are just divine.

    Moon Safari is great too.

And no, my namedrops aren't so much a RAH RAH RAH LISTEN TO THIS RAH RAH RAH as they are a 'yeah, these guys are good and you may dig 'em when you get the chance to listen.'

    Underlined: Good idea

Bolded: They are one of the most unique Prog. bands in this decade which is probably because 3 of the members are from At The Drive-In

Anybody ever purchase anything off of The Laser's Edge shop? I just bought Moon Safari's Blomljud from there. Price is the lowest I've seen it at any source I've checked. I just hope I didn't get myself into a big mess, because I'm out $22.20 if so.

Listening to The Incident now... Amazon's MP3 store glitched and currently has Occam's Razor as a 55:15 track containing the whole of The Incident's first disc, for 99 cents.

If you're on the fence about it, can't argue with the price

I've never actually listened to either Yessongs or Keys to Ascension but I can get either one relatively cheap from my local music store, I don't really want to buy both but more to the point which is better?
