it's hardly straight-forward prog, and i'm sure the average prog fan would actually totally despise it, but the latest extra life album is still one of my favorites from 2010 (and for that matter, zs's album is also great).

I've been trying to get my hands on Xing Sa's album... that sounds like it might be up my alley.

I might have registred the first comment totallt wrong. But whoever says that Rush and Pink Floyd isn't prog have to tell me where the thin line between prog and not prog is. For all I know, Rush are pioneers in the genre.

...and have proceeded to not make a progressive album in over 25 years. Moving Pictures was probably their last.

i wouldn't even call anything after Hemispheres prog

as far as pioneers of the genre, they aren't even close, and played some of the least progressive-prog rock of the 70s

How ignorant are you? In the first comment you clearly states that prog isnt just about odd time signatures and concept albums. What about the guitars, the scales, everything about music. Just because they didn't make any epics after Hemispheres doesnt state that songs like Mission, Alien Shore, The spirit of radio, Natural Sciene, Leave that thing alone, One Little Victory, The Main Monkey Business, Malignant Narcissism, Far Cry, Peaceable Kingdom, Show Don't Tell, The Big Money, Marathon, Red Lenses, and Digital Man to name a few them AREN'T progressive music. Rush are heroes to many progressive bands today like Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree. You want this thread to be clean and without fighting, then make sure to keep the subject and the facts right, not your personal thoughts how progressive music should be done.

I made parts Red to highlight something that gave me giggles. And while I'm not to sharp when it comes to prog, just because Rush is a hero to a lot of progressive bands doesn't make them prog. And could you please show me the right "facts" about what prog is? And I don't mean quote wikipedia, I mean the facts about Prog. Otherwise, you're just throwing in your own opinion about what prog is too.
Not removing this until we get some Sunn O)))
in which case this will be on for a while.

try actually listening to the songs, most are just hard rock songs or pop rock songs, they hardly played any prog after they released Hemispheres, and in fact, if you ever watch any interviews, they admit they didn't play any because Hemispheres burned them out on prog

    1. DT is one of the least progressive prog bands today
    2. Johnny Cash was a hero to many people who picked up instruments and learned how to play, but they didn't play country-rock like him, in fact, many people i know consider him a hero and are metalheads, doesn't make Johnny Cash metal

you've yet to give any examples of progressive elements, instead you just personally attacked me several times, then rambled off a list of Rush songs, then some opinions of yours

I prefer to call DT "metal for music majors"... but to call them one of the least progressive prog bands would probably require a bit of explanation about most crossover prog acts, and quite a few of the symphonic metal bands as well.
