No, not everyone has classified Rush progressive rock, I've seen good many hard rock place holders put on them.

2112 is Prog. Rush isn't Prog.
Bohemian Rhapsody is Prog. Queen isn't Prog.

Hear me out. It's a complex arrangement, using unusual styles. It changes pace, tempo and style entirely, multiple times. The only thing it doesn't have is odd time signatures and a mellotron.

I discovered something I hate about most prog bands. Since most prog bands decide to make their songs extravagantly long, they tend to avoid repetition by mixing it up constantly. I love this, I have nothing wrong with this, the problem is that sometimes Outstanding musical themes go stupidly undeveloped. Once they get that perfect tune, it's gone.

The perfect example would be Triumvirats Broken Mirror. The song opens with one of the most beautiful piano arrangements I've ever heard, and transforms into a wonderful prog rock song. However, it changes drastically towards more of a demented swing tune, and changes again into something else. Where's my gorgeous piano? Where's my beautiful melody? Gone, like that. Will it return? No, the song ends so abruptly you sit and wait for something more.

This isn't the only offender; numerous bands do this. I hate it. Most bands I guess just don't seem to know what they have is wonderful, and tear it away too soon.

You my friend need to hear some of Transatlantic's work they have only 3 songs that are not epics (which sound awesome) and Duel With The Devil is freaking awesome!

While the Bohemian Rhapsody is complex, changes styles, etc., I couldn't consider it a prog rock song, (though that doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable), it's just a wonderful song that goes through many styles of music, so technically, i couldn't include it under any genre, it starts as a soft rock song, goes into an opera, and ends as hard rock, with other various genres sprinkled inbetween.

So I got ELP's first album (mind-blowing btw), and I stopped and thought how much the singer sounded like King Crimson's first singer.

Just made the connection a minute ago. Mind was blown.
