Couldn't name a top four. Dream Theater and Judas Priest probably rank at the top for me, but after that it depends on my mood, which could include:

Motorhead, Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Death Angel, Opeth, Symphony X, Evergrey, Threshold, Kamelot, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy, Nightwish, Dio, Candlemass, Trouble, Mastodon...

In short there's too much good metal out there to have clear favorites.

It's Metallica, Immortal, Stevie Ray, and Pantera. They have a special part in my heart.....

The rest can wallow in intellectual area of all things sweet.
