Dumb Musical Opinions You Used to Have

We're starting to get too many Stupid Things spin-off threads IMO.

Eh, I wouldn't consider this to be a spin-off of the stupid things you've heard, thread. I mean, yeah, they both involve dumb things about music, but this is more about stupid opinions we personally had about music in general.

The other thread started with "Someone told me A Skylit Drive is a more talented band than Led Zeppelin. LOLWUT?"

So, there are distinct differences.

I actually had something similar to this, earlier.

I used to believe that lyrics were the single-most important part of any musical piece and without meaningful music, it lost any relevance it had as "art."

I also felt that anyone who adopted the "If you want meaningful lyrics, go read a poem." point of view to be disinclined to any real art.

Of course I was like, 13. And obviously.

Now I happily adopt that same point of view, and consider lyrics to be the least important part of any musical piece.

In the words of Kevin Shields, "nothing's worse than bad lyrics"

I used to also be in the camp of people who think musical opinion = fact. I once got banned on these forums by comparing the Foo Fighters to the sounds of same gender sex (albeit a bit more graphically depicted), haha. It's really the HoR forums here that set me straight.

I used to have an anti-Rap stance, but I've turned around on that now that I've discovered that it actually CAN be art and isn't necessarily just the mind-numbingly repetitive garbage that I danced to at prom... As you can see, I'm still working on that.

I just generally didn't have a really well formed musical opinion until Freshman year of high school, and I've been fine tuning it since then. Before that point I just sort of drifted from one thing to another based on whatever I heard the most of at any given time.
