1964 - The Beatles make their live CBS TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show watched by an estimated 73 million viewers. The crime rate in US cities is reported to have dropped dramatically during the shows broadcast time. They play All My Loving, Till There Was You, She Loves You, I Saw Her Standing There, and I Want To Hold Your Hand. Also appearing on the show is the children's choir from the Broadway show Oliver which includes future Monkee Davy Jones.

1972 - Paul McCartney and his new band Wings, began their debut low-key Tour of small British clubs and University Campuses with an un-advertised show at Nottingham University.

1978 - The Ted Nugent instrumental Home Bound reaches #70 in the US

1978 - After a 2 year UK singles chart absence , Sweet return at #9 with Love Is Like Oxygen. Sweet tour the UK for the first time in 4 years.

1980 - Ex-Runaway Cherrie Currie appears in the film Foxes alongside Jodie Foster. Cherry Red Records releases Flaming Schoolgirls, a half live half studio compilation of material featuring the original lineup of The Runaways.

1980 - An unlikely revival of The Shangri-La's 1964 #5 hit Remember (Walking In The Sand) gets Aerosmith on the charts at #67. Brad Whitford quits the band to form a new band with ex-Ted Nugent guitarist/singer Derek St. Holmes. Rick Dufay replaces Whitford in Aerosmith.

1981 - Siouxsie & The Banshees start an 11 date tour of the UK.

1981 - Bill Haley, the first white artist to score a pop chart hit with a rock n' roll record, died in his sleep at Harlington, Texas at the age of 56 He had been unwell for some time and had become a heavy drinker.

1982 - David Byrne of The Talking Heads produces The B52's Mesopotamia album.

1982 - George Harrison presented UNICEF with a cheque for nearly $9 million as settlement for the Bangladesh benefit concert held in 1971. It had taken over 10 years to cut through the 'red tape' surrounding the proceeds of the show.

1983 - Motley Crue flies to Las Vegas on Doc McGhee’s private plane to see how he runs his organisation, McGhee Entertainment Inc. The meeting arises after Doug Thaler and McGhee witnessed Mötley’s show on New Year’s Eve and are keen to manage them. Impressed and eager to play bigger shows, they soon agree that Doc and Doug will be Motley’s new management team and are pleased they come through when their chips are down. Doc’s under-the-table gifts and masterly methods of manipulation soon ensure Motley becomes more of a priority with Elektra Records

1986 - Pete Townshend, Chrissie Hynde and The Communards played a charity show at London's Royal Albert Hall to benefit victims of a volcanic eruption in Colombia.

1990 - Whitesnake, which now has the lineup of David Coverdale, Steve Vai, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge, begin a new World Tour in support of their latest album Slip Of The Tongue.

1991 - AC/DC's Moneytalks reaches #24 in the US.

2004 - The Brides of Destruction, featuring Nikki Sixx and Tracii Guns, shoot the video to their first single Shut The F**k Up!
