    Music Of The 20s

Here's the story. Me and my friend have to do a school project on the 20s and so we decided to work on music. Part of why I wanted to do it, though, is because my musical knowledge of that decade is limited. I know that jazz was big in the 20s, but which musicians in particular were important and what other genres were growing/developing at that time?

All I've got, really, is Louis Armstron and George Gershwin, right now, so some other musicians, and clips of music would be great, thank you.

Bing Crosby and Glen Gray come to mind.

Fats Waller, although not from the 20's. He's a Jazz pianist mainly known during the 30's. I'd recommend Breakin' the Ice: The Early Years Part 1.

I know its a showtune and all, but I usually remember Ol' Man River when I think of the 20's.

See, wiseguy, you should poke your head in at the local speak easy and talk to the man jerking suds. He'll give you the straight talk, clue you in to which big bands are the cat's pajamas, and everything will be Jake.

James P. Johnson wrote the Charleston which was the rage of the 1920s and also there's the Memphis Jug Band

Another group is doing dance, so we're letting them take the Charleston, haha.

Thanks, people. More recommendations would help, but this is a decent start, haha

Been a member since here 21 August 2008.
1000+ songs... Expert everything except keys or pro guitar/bass.

It's been a long run, but it's been fun.
