1942 - The very first Gold Record was presented. it was given to Glenn Miller for sales of his Chattanooga Choo-Choo single.

1967 - The Beatles record A Day In The Life for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. In an unprecedented move in pop, they use 40 session musicians to create the track's orchestral sound.

1971 - Frank Zappa is forced to cancel a concert at London's Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra after venue officials declare the libretto 200 Motels obscene and refuse to have it played. The piece was to be the center-piece of the show. Undaunted Zappa makes the movie 200 Motels , a fictionalized documentary of The Mothers of Invention, which featured Ringo Starr as Frank Zappa and Keith Moon as a Nun.

1973 - The Grateful Dead's Sugar Magnolia peaks at #91 in the US.

1974 - Phil Spector was repotedly seriously injured in car crash somewhere between L.A. and Phoenix, Arizona. In a typically mysterious statement precise details of the incident were vague.

1974 - Teenage Dream hits #13 in the UK and is the first release that the band's name is amended to Marc Bolan and T. Rex

1977 - Don't Believe A Word from Thin Lizzy's Johnny The Fox reaches #12 in the UK

1978 - Debut album Van Halen produced by Ted Templeman is released. It will go on to hit #19 in the US with sales over 2 million.

1978 - Queen's We Are The Champions hits #4 in the US and goes Platinum.

1981 - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts opens at New York's Peppermint Lounge as a prelude to their US Tour to promte their debut album Bad Reputation.

1982 - Guitarist Mick Moody left Whitesnake and drummer Kenny Hyslop left Simple Minds.

1988 - A re-recorded version of Give Me All Your Love featuring Whitesnake's current lineup hits #18 in the UK.

1989 - Faith No More and producer Matt Wallace complete work on The Real Thing

1990 - With her Forever Your Girl debut album Paula Abdul became the first female artist with an album in the Top 10 of the US chart for over 50 weeks!

1990 - Aerosmith's Janie's Got A Gun hits #4 in the US.

1998 - John Corabi and Bruce Kulick perform an acoustic set on air from Rebel Radio in Chicago, consisting of tracks from their forthcoming Union album, as well as The Beatles’ song Hide Your Love Away and the Kiss classic Beth.

You've mentioned Motley '94 an attempt at grunge before but I just don't get where you're getting that at all. Not saying you're wrong and I'm not attacking you so don't mis-understand me. I just don't hear it. At all. Corabi wasn't and isn't a 'grunge' style singer by any stretch and musically ... geez I dunno dude. I mean I go through the track listing and I don't hear any grunge or grunge influence for that matter. More blues influence in there with Corabi helping out on songwriting duties but I don't hear grunge.

Zappa had too many problems with orchestras like that, haha. They missed out, since I love 200 Motels for a sort of "what the hell is going on?" kind of humor, haha.
