I think what makes this song so difficult is that it is supposed to be played by alt-sticking sixteenth notes on the red pad leading with your left and hitting the yellow pad with your right, when it would probably easier to just play it as eighth notes with your right hand on the yellow pad.

Don't tell anyone, but I "cheat" when I play this song. I play Rock Band on my Roland TD-10 kit and so I just re-arrange my triggers so that the blue-pad "ride cymbal" actually triggers the red pad so that I can play it as eighth notes on my ride cymbal, and it is really easy to beat.

RB1's difficulty ratings were so messed up, at least for drums. There's no way in hell Enter Sandman is as hard as (or harder than) Dead on Arrival and (Don't Fear) The Reaper.

No it's not. It's completely natural RLRL RLRL sticking, leading with the right hand.

All you're doing is is playing 8th notes with the left hand on red the whole time, and the right hand is doing 8th notes going back and forth from R to Y to R to Y.

You can sorta see me doing it in this old, bad quality video: High Quality link

That is true. In the song, he starts the pattern with two reds, so you do start it with your right. If he had started with the three hi-hats like in the rest of the rhythm, you'd have to start with your left. Maybe that is what I was getting at. I hadn't seen the note chart till just now, so I forgot. I guess it is the whole playing eighth notes as sixteenths on the red pad that gets me confused. Again, that is why I just "cheat" and I have a special kit just for that song with the red pad mapped to my ride cymbal, so I can just play them as eighths with my right hand all the way.

I know it took me longer to beat this song than it did to beat Outside. Outside definitely should be ranked higher due to its speed, but I still have trouble beating I Get By. I can pass Outside anytime I want to now though.

I can't remember this song giving me any trouble. But then, I only play on Hard...

...speaking of which, whoever actually believes Dead on Arrival is harder than Enter Sandman has seemingly never gone below Expert difficulty. ES is one of the very, very few songs that still are trouble for me on Medium drums (though actually not that much worse on Hard, and I can see the point if the curve rises similarly toward Expert). DFTR is another matter entirely...one of two RB1 songs I can't beat on Hard drums (the other being, surprise, Run to the Hills).
Guitar/Bass: Expert (with a very few exceptions)
    Drums: Hard/Expert
    Vocals: Hard

Most wanted DLC: "Luka", Suzanne Vega

I Get By is actually one of my favorite songs on drums. You just have to get the alternating hands with red and yellow down. Then, you add the bass pedal. Simple.

Dead on Arrival is awesome though. I love songs where it has pedal note, then a double pad note (red and blue), then a pedal note or two again.

    Like Devour, for example.

In my opinion though, the hardest song I've ever tried is probably Shoulder to the Plow. It has such a freakin tricky beat. Ugh.
