The local venues have had major leeway in how they are allowed to interpret the rules.
The regional locations seem to be where the strict focus on rules is going to occur.

Yeah, I still think its kinda crap that they took off Teen Age Riot for being unbalanced and then ran with Give It Away when its on the opposite end of the spectrum. Eh, whatever, though.
VS didn't really have any more stage presence than we did last night (Mouthfull was definitely the winner their with their hair metal look), so I think they're still going to have a rough going in the second round.
No one scored over 2 mil at the Joliet location; top score was 1.95 on Give It Away. The highest non-GIA score was 1.75 million on Down With The Sickness, followed by 1.5 million on PDA. This was across all nights, not just the finals.
Pretty sure my band has the top score at the Showboat in Atlantic City. I can't talk about our exact scores or people will be upset with me, but I do happen to know that the previous high score at that location was in the 2.15M range on Give It Away and we destroyed that high score on our qualifying run last week.
There is at least one other team in the competition that I am aware of that has at least as much scoring talent across all instruments, and I would not be surprised to learn that they, too have posted a score well into the 2M++ range.

i just wish they would honor their "official" rules. what's the fun in competing with 8 bands who all play the same boring song??
Well either way, I'm going Friday to my local event and I'm NOT playing Give It Away. My band and I are going to have a great time and even if we don't win, I know we'll have a blast. I'll post pics this weekend. Good luck to everyone NOT playing Give It Away. I commend you!

Wow, QQ TheSL.
You know, I would never post anything like this if you hadn't bothered to call us out, but frankly, your band would have won if it weren't for your mumble-thon non-performance on Ramblin' Man. Yeah, Mouthfull gets props for their stage presence, but it was an 80's hair-metal parody. I think Tragedy Kingdom also had great stage presence, but clearly they couldn't perform like they did and maintain a high score. But to compare our stage presence to yours? You literally stood on stage with your hand in your pocket through the whole song staring at the monitor except where you had to "play tambourine". Your entire band didn't move once the entire song except to lift their guitars for Overdrive. If you had beaten us, I wouldn't fault you for this, because the competition was all about score, after all, but let's be realistic.
I danced throughout our entire song (to the point where I was a little winded toward the end), and barely looked at the screen. Our guitarist danced around while playing... maybe you only saw our bassist? He does have a tendency to stand a little too still, and I'm working on him. The point is, we did a lot more than just stand in place, and you still couldn't beat our score on a "lesser song." Don't worry - we will have no issues at regionals based on performance.
As far as us being there every week and it being our "home field," that opportunity was available to everyone. Porkchop Express had members there every week also, although they didn't perform every week. That's the way Harrah's KC chose to run their contest, so who do you really have a problem with?
The bottom line is this. You guys may be ScoreHeroes in your basements, but a live environment is a whole other story. It's not about what the hardest song you can play is, it's about what song you can play consistently near-perfect. This is our third live competition as a band, and we've won the previous two, so you can cry all you like about how we suck and you guys are so much better, but maybe in the end, we just play better according to the rules and the situation at hand.
Sorry, I'm still sore about the whole pulling the score for TAR at the last minute for the KC competition- we'd even double checked with the coordinator twice before bothering to perform the song because we knew it would be difficult to make it out more than the two times (initial play and the finals).
As far as stage performance- I look forward to future video of you putting the same kind of dance moves on the stage when you have more than 1 signing phrase in your song.
No hard feelings, honestly; like kn0sis before, I probably should have vented my frustration in a more adult-like manner. I'm more angry at myself for not being used to the overwhelming stage noise and screwing up the first few phrases of the song.
