Who is the greatest metal singer of all time?

So many great metal singers out there, but who do you think is the greatest.

Yes Robert Plant is on the list, not exactly metal, but he is one of the greatest singers of all time, and the term "metal" was a little different back then.

Let's clear something up okay... I realize some of these people aren't metal...but back in the 60's and 70's they were, and if you don't like it, you vote for someone who you do consider "metal" It's all in opinion, and generations change.

Really? James Hetfield but no Dave Mustaine? Out of that list, I'd say Halford.

Also, Bon Scott and Brian Johnson aren't metal.

James Hetfield is (in theory) the worst singer on that list. He doesn't sing, he yells.

    When he does sing however...

Why in the world is Axl Rose on that list?

    I went with Halford.

If James LaBraie (sp?) from Dream Theater was on the list I would vote for him but I'll just go with Ozzy for now =)

By today's standards, you are correct. But in their time they were considered metal. AC/DC specifically was considered heavy metal in the late 70s and early 80s.

Back on topic...Bruce Dickinson is my choice.

Led Zeppelin were never Metal. They get lumped in because 85% of the world doesn't know the difference between Hard Rock and Metal. The Who were one of the heaviest bands in their day; does that make them Metal? No, it does not.
AC/DC have always been a Hard Rock band, nothing more.
GN'R were lumped with the whole Glam movement because of their hair. They weren't Glam, and weren't heavy enough for Metal, otherwise. Hard Rock, through and through.
