There's no contest for me, its Bowie. He certainly hasn't had the most consistent career, but I don't really care. Life On Mars, Starman, and pretty much everything he did with Brian Eno go a long way toward making up for all of the terrible music he's put out over the years.

Alice is probably an overlooked songwriter. I mean, lyrically he's not the most serious, but the tunes are generally rather solid, I'm gonna back Bob up here.
Well, everyone, prepare to have your guts kicked out by folk singers...

Ok, seriously, I don't wanna bash on Alice's songwriting, but I'd like someone to quote me good lyrics. Here are some I find.... less good:

    ...

You know what... I actually re-read some lyrics and found out I had an old prejudice agains his lyrics writting. I still prefer Bowie, but Alice is not bad. It's simple but not stupid like some Sabbath lyrics could be (I still love Sabbath).

WGG Radio- SgtDill- Sting never saw a song where he didn't think, "You know, I think it would be better with 2 more minutes of chorus at the end."

"Well we got no class, and we got no principles, we got not innocence, we can't even think of a word that rhymes."

How can one hear this without instantly realizing how lyrically brilliant Alice is?

Lol, that's one of the reasons I changed my mind.
