Is the idea of playing a calssic album live played out?

Iron Maiden did it with A Matter Of Life And Death
Slayer did it with Reign In Blood
    Anthrax Among the Living
    KISS: Alive!
    Billy Squire: Don't Say No
    Metallica: Master of Puppets
Testament are doing the first two records
Judas Priest just announced they are doing British Steel this summer and would still like to do Nostradamus at some point.
Motley Crue are doing Dr. Feelgood on Crue Fest 2 this summer

Is this idea played out at this point? Do you even like the idea? Would you prefer a different album or a 'greatest hits' type set list?

    Discuss....

Depending on the album and band I kind of like the idea myself. Some bands get into a rut and year after year play the same set list with no change whatsoever. That gets stale for me.

Heart did this with Dreamboat Annie, that was a cool performance. I like the idea for the mix up every once in awhile.

I think DT did this at one point. It must be incredibly draining for the performers.

I don't think it's a problem, but did KISS really play Alive! as a "classic albums live" set? It seems to defeat the purpose.

Does some alternative rock label not do a thing where bands play classic albums through? I think the Melvin's did Houdini and a few bands have appeared more than once with different albums each time. It's interesting, obviously, but I like this context, where it's just a special one-off show, rather than a tour based on the idea. Patti Smith did all of Horses live, too, although I've yet to hear that.

I saw NOFX play all of Punk in Drublic once and it was awesome. I think more bands should do something like this.

Marillion does it all the time. They did shows with "This Strange Engine" and "Brave" within the past few years.
Does anyone chart anymore? le sigh.

The Who played near enough the full Tommy album but did mix it up with some of their other songs.

Both Waters and Gilmour have done Dark Side of the Moon live.

Primus did it with Frizzle Fry and it's pretty great to watch.
