Why hello there! I'm Rob and I run RB-San Francisco. Right now we run out of 1 venue, but it's constantly recurring and we partner with some people that hold occasional events in Oakland. To answer your questions:

    1) Personally? Not very far. Our own events are in the city, about 4 miles away from where I live. Even going to Oakland, it's only 16 miles over. I know that some of our regulars come from Berkeley area (about 20 miles), most are here in the city, some come from the South Bay/San Jose area (about 50 miles). One of the big differences is that I don't own a car; in SF you hardly ever need one. Anything in the city is less than about 5 miles away from anywhere else in the city, so most people dont need/have to go that far.

    2) Why did the thread slack off? Most of it had to do with the RBBN program going away. I'd imagine that another big part of it is that the people running RBNights have been doing it long enough now that there's no real questions left about it. There's also all the area-specific threads that takes out most of the 'general discussion' aspect. There's even another (newer) "How do I start a Rock Band Tournament" thread going on for more questions.

    3) I have some of the promo-art that came out, but some of them are too big for proper attachments. I'll see if I can put them on megaupload or something later.

    4) Costumes? If you have them readily available and that's going to be part of the focus for events, then it wouldn't hurt. I'd say that, very broadly speaking, it isn't necessary, but would be a nice extra touch.

    1) We are based in greater Atlanta area. We travel all over from Vegas to Orlando. In fact I think this year we'll be doing about the same amount of shows outside our region as within.

    2) I think the thread is slow because not a lot of people come into this and we chime in for some general things and to say hi to newcomers. If you want to keep up with individual entities that do this you are better off getting on their FB page or Twitter feed. The RBBN dissolving was disappointing, but as Gabe put it he was doing them before the RBBN and will do them after as well. I came into it just as the RBBN started and it helped to say we are part of a program run by MTV Games. For bars that helped get me a couple of gigs I think. It even helped land me a corporate client I think. However, for us the bar business is a very small portion of what we do when compared to private, community, and corporate events.

    3) The promo art is nice, but it has RBBN logos, so I would get right of those if I was going to use it. I personally think that establishing your own branding it more important than reusing the artwork. I will say that I used the artwork when I launched so I'm not knocking it.

    4) I concur on the costumes to some degree. Not a priority but if you have them, go for it. I think they add a nice fun touch to events. It really depends though on the crowd. I can think of some bars we've worked at where that just wouldn't fly, yet younger college bars I can see it. Also works great in large events like festivals and expos and corporate parties where there are bound to be some fun clowning around.

    Thanks for the responses back.
Alright, here's some more questions for you guys,

1.) LCD, Plasma, or other? Which is better as far as the tv's syncing up with the game?

    2.) TVs or Monitors?

3.) The video that LiquidKourage posted on his set up was very informative, does anyone else have a video of their set-up? If not would you be willing to make one?

I'm sure I'll have lots more questions as I do more research, I have no experience with this sort of set-up.

    1) I prefer LCDs as they are much lighter. I just picked up (literally and figuratively) an LED set last week and it's 28 lbs.

    2) Monitors for small screen and you can't really get just a monitor in sizes like 42" so TVs for those. I always find awesome deals at Dell. Speaking of which:

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=A3913945

    $470 shipped.

Just got this 2 weeks ago.

    3) I built my setup from tips on this thread and as I learned what works and doesn't. I haven't done a video. If I remember, I will do one at our next show.

By the way, anyone here going to Pax East? I'll be there.

Thanks for the response. That is a really good deal on Dell, most of my stuff I'll be getting through my work, unless I can find decent used equipment. I pay 10% above cost so buying new will probably be a better choice for me.

So I've been checking out mixing consoles and there seems to be several different types and I'm still slightly confused on what type to get. Alot of them seam to be a bit excessive for what I'd want to use them for, would something like this work?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...991#vi-content

If not, then what exactly am I looking for in a mixer? Does it need to be amplified, or will a pre amp do it?

Howdy folks, hope you're all well.

We have our next gig coming up at Supanova Expo in Brisbane on April 1st, which will be our first one since Rock Band 3 was released.

Just wondering how you're finding Rock Band 3 for running the events as opposed to RB2, anything better / worse? Any tips you'd care to share?

    Cheers.

Hi guy's. I am thinking about starting something like this where I am at in Nova Scotia. I have read most of this thread for idea's. I have all the equipment including a ton of dlc to get started with. I am hoping to get pointers to help get my foot in the door. I have a number of ideas, facebook is one. See who in the area would be interested in going to an event like this and bringing that information with me to talk to the owner of the proposed establishment. Also there was a rather large tournament here a couple of years ago for GH3, it was presented by our local radio station (Q104) and Subway in which the top 2 finalists battled on stage for VIP tickets a guitar and a meeting with KISS whom was the headliner for the show. I was the winner of that tournament and got the title of Q104 Rock Hero which I am thinking I can use to help get some attention here in my town. If anyone has any other ideas for helping me get that proverbial foot in the door it would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
