Essentially, you get 2 computers and a wireless router. One computer has to act as a web server (with apache, mysql, etc. installed), and the other acts as a terminal. Basically, you make people sign in, then pick their song from a web interface. You can customize the data that comes back to you, like difficulty choices, names of bandmates, etc.

Anyway, the person picks their song and submits it to you wirelessly, where you can keep a window open that auto-updates the "waiting list".

Updating the system would be as simple as adding new songs into your database.

    Any thoughts/interest?

Ima techno geek and I think that has some real cool merits. Do you have a list of programs that you use to make this work?

You can do this with 2 laptops - one with an external Monitor that is a touch screen so you dont have to do the PC thing. As for a wireless connection, it can be ad hoc, so 2 wireless items can be used. The webserver can run on the same PC that is accessing it.

Or you can do this with one laptop, with an external Touch Monitor set as a virtual desktop space with the Internal Webpage running on it. So you are working on your laptop on Monitor 1 and the public is using the virtual monitor 2 - One computer running the whole show. WOW this could work.

To put the Icing on the cake, if one laptop is running wirelessly, you can give your internal IP out and those with Webphones can plug in your IP to their phone browser and pick their songs from their seats on their Web phone. Now that would rock!!!!

Send me your setup designs LK - I am interested in seeing what you have now.

I don't think you need this. You'll be suprised how many girls actually wanna sing guy songs too... and sometimes vica-versa

All songs are a must have ! Not every song is going to be a radio hit but it is the shear quantity of songs that suprises people and keeps there interest. Get em all, hell 1 gig a month will pay for it

Although the computer sign up idea is cool, I don't think it is really necessary. A simple sign up sheet with a sign up spot for each instrument and each performance will do. As mentioned before. This would put a lot of effort and maitnence into something with very little value or payoff. My 2 cents anyways. Later!

This. I think your time would be better spent on something else. Plus, it seems rather impractical to be hauling around all the extra equipment it would take to do such a mundane task.
    Holding out hope for:

    Garth Brooks
    Coldplay
    Matchbox Twenty
    Heart
    Def Leppard
    Warrant
    Prince

Well, I'm going to throw my hat in the ring and bring Rock Band to the NW Arkansas area. I've taken all of your wonderful advise and am putting together my set-up. Started putting my website together at www.fantasyrockstars.com. Check it out and tell me what you think so far.

    Site's coming along nicely.
I like sites that don't look cookie cutter so you get points for that.
    Keep us posted.

    Hey LiquidKourage,

Do you integrate Karaoke into your shows in addition to RB. If so, do you use a hardware or software solution for the karaoke?

If anyone has any suggestions please chime in

    Thanks

I do integrate karaoke into my RB shows; though, more accurately, I integrate RB into my karaoke shows.

I'm not sure what you mean by "hardware/software solution", but my karaoke system is a micro PC that runs a software package called Karaoke-Go-Round (not available publicly at the moment) that handles rotation management, singer histories, an electronic songbook system, playing mp3+g files, and video display. I send the secondary video out (through S-video adapted to RCA) to a simple A/B switch which also handles the Rock Band video out, and send that signal out to multiple TVs.

I'm basically the most high-tech karaoke host in my area, and have a library of over 60,000 karaoke tracks. I'd be happy to offer advice on the karaoke aspect of bar entertainment if anyone asks.

    Thanks for the info.
This is actually of concern to me as I wrap up the business plan. I need to be able to define what I offer and what I don't offer and on the latter list is karaoke which I think some folks will want. I need to be able to anticipate the request for karaoke and how to gracefully "delta sell and burn grass" it while I am not offering it.

I will definitely keep your contact info to pick your brain about how you run this combined with karaoke.
