Musicians you listen to bands for

What Bands do you primarily listen to because of the expertise of a musician?

I listen to DT currently because of the expertise and talent of Myung, but not only that he's IMO a better "musician" than Portnoy, Rudess and Petrucci.

Good song to show this? Granted it's not Dream Theater but Myung's song "Solar Groove" Edit : It is a solo in a DT song apparently /sigh (I don't cover all of DT's work)

As far as reasons for my love for Soundgarden goes on a per-member basis:

    2% goes to Ben Shepherd.
    10% goes to Matt Cameron
    12% goes to Chris Cornell.
    76% goes to Kim Thayil.

I don't care how much more famous Chris is, Kim's riffs made the band.
I will not remove this until Badmotorfinger is offered as full-album DLC.

Anything with Steve Wilson's mark near it. I mean anything. That man turns lead into gold like some sort of archmagus alchemist with the philisopher's stone being his dick.

I could say some similar to a less creepy effect about Marty Friedman

Just because he played in Cacophony I've checked them and Hawaii out.
Because Marty (and Pata of X Japan) worked on R.U.O.K?! w/ Nanase Aikawa I've checked her music out as well

Chris Squire's bass skills from YES influence a lot of the Prog. I listen to

Also, Keith Emerson,s keyboards took me to all of his projects and from Emerson, Lake, And Palmer I expanded through all of the members side projects until they began to overlap (Asia)

Also, Ian Anderson's flute playing took me into Prog. music with flautists and Jon Anderson's vocals influenced much of the Prog. I listened to until I began to listen to Death Prog.

Blues however was just inspired by Eric Clapton then I went off in my own direction

    Slash made me like GNR

Rob Halford is the coolest *** person ever (don't have anything against them, but still he's awesome) my favorite Priest member

Portnoy got me into DT (and drumming)

Brann Dailor got me into Mastodon (and drumming)
Cleveland Browns 5-11 (next whenever they start playing again)

I listen to Metallica because of...
    40% James Hetfield
    35% Kirk Hammet
    25% Lars Ulrich
0% Robert Trujilo... He's not a bad bassist, I just don't really care that much about his parts in the songs, mostly because he didn't write most of them and you can hardly hear the bass anyway.

I listen to Aerosmith because of...
    35% Steven Tyler
    30% Joe Perry
    15% Tom Hamilton
    15% Joey Kramer
    5% Brad Whitford

I could do a list like this for every band I like, but I'll just say it... As you can see from these examples, the singer and guitarist(s) matter the most to me generally.

I don't listen to bands because it's members to be honest. I mostly listen to the music in which i like the sound of, but if i had to choose one it'd be have to be Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage.
If i promise to be your wings, would you fly with me?

    This.

Aside from Mr. Wilson, I used to follow around Al Jourgensen like a puppy. At least, until ministry started really sucking. Chris Connelly counts as well. His solo work is amazing, Revolting ****s, Damage Manual, Fini Tribe, Pigface, the list goes on of how awesome he is.
Does anyone chart anymore? le sigh.
