yeah I saw another U2 thread pop up the other day and within a few posts someone had pointed it here. and I think we have done a pretty good job of keeping it in the first few pages and fighting off trolls.

    keep up the good work.

I'm happy I helped dig this thread back from page 10.

It took me longer than it should have to figure out the following, so you all probably know this, but I'll post it in case some of you don't: at the top of the page that lists the threads in the forum, if you click on the word Replies at the top of the column headers it re-sorts the list to show threads in order of most posts instead of most recent post order. That brings this thread into the top 10-20 threads in the "Your Ultimate Setlist" section every time, so that you don't have to go searching for it.

Obviously this doesn't help new people find the U2 thread if they are looking, but it prevents return vistitors from having to search to page 10 to find the thread.

I am surprised that this thread has done so well considering that "U2" is too short a phrase to do a search on.

I am am off taking off for a couple of weeks for my wedding and honeymoon. so I won't be around to bump it up to it rightful place for a while.

It won't be a total break from the game....We are taking Rockband to the wedding reception. Who needs a crappy DJ or coverband when we can be our own rockstars.

Zooropa and Pop get a ton of flack and I just don't understand it. The albums are two of the most inventive albums of U2's career, especially Zooropa. That album is teeming with experimentation and in my opinion genius (although I will be the first to admit that none of the songs from it would be very good on Rock Band). It is often lost in the shuffle when talking about U2 albums since it was released in the middle of their European tour during 1993 and was never supported in the USA with any concerts since they went to Australia and then Japan to finish up Zoo TV. It also won the Grammy for best Alternative album that year, over the likes of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and the rest of the hip grunge groups, and if you think about it, Zooropa is much more alternative than any of the grunge acts that were derivative of 70's rock.

As for Pop, if you listen to the album today you can see that it was far ahead of its time compared to the music that was coming out at the time in 1997. Now-a-days it doesn't sound nearly as off the wall. I admit it isn't the best of their career and a few songs don't hold up very well, such as Playboy Mansion. But MoFo, Miami (which sounds much more in-sync with the music of today than it did in 1997), If You Wear That Velvet Dress, and Please are all inventive songs that break the normal U2 mold.

I've always liked U2, but even more so when they got out of their comfort zone and just went for it. That being said, I think Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me, The Fly, City of Blinding Lights, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and Bullet the Blue Sky would be an excellent 5 song pack for U2 on Rock Band. Although, I wish The Ground Beneath Her Feet would make it to Rock Band, but it will never happen.

The Ground Beneath Her Feat is excellent! I'm also one of those who really like "Pop". Rumor has it that the next album is gonna be experimental and pretty "far out" from the two previous ones. I can't wait!

So do you mean an 80's band that is still alive only because of super cheesyness, and their diehard fanbase that don't exactly listen to any other bands period?

Sure, why not, it's not like this game can get any worse, we already have techno in it, why not add a country or rap album after this?! After all, if it has guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, it's ROCK no matter what!

(or synths/piano that take up the guitar chart)

Um... I just have to say you're way off there. U2 are hardly the only band I listen to. I could give you a whole list of all the bands I like, but it would be REALLY long. And I won't clog up this thread with it. So I'll just say you're way off base there. And if you're suggesting U2 aren't rock, then I don't know what the hell you think rock is. Maybe you'll bring something up about "real rock" being bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, and so on, but you can't deny that U2 are actually, no matter what you want to say, rock.

That's awesome Will-San! Congratulations and have a great time. When you get back, we want to hear how the Rock Band reception went. And who knows, maybe we'll have some U2 in the game by then.

Yeah, congrats Will-san! Have a great time and we'll look for you to ressurrect this post again when you return. By the way, I search yours or AllIWantisU2's screenname to find this thread when it gets lost in the nether-worlds.
