it's actually odd i didn't make it to prog rock overall, nor shoegaze... i'm sure i'll get bored one day and finish the list.

I just did 4th wave for you (although there are maybe 1 or 2 albums I would add like A Place In The Queue and a Spock's Beard album)

I would like to see your Prog. choices personally (expecting Zappa though )

    yeah, basically...
i'd also throw in galaxie 500's "on fire" and swap the lush album with "gala" or maybe m83's "before the dawn heals us".

I think I'd find a way to sneak in Curve's Doppelgänger or Catherine Wheel's Chrome. I never really rated Moose or The Boo Radleys and Swervedriver never belonged in that scene. I probably should consider the Cocteau Twins as dream pop but I was being a purist. If so, Treasure or Heaven or Las Vegas could make it in.

I didn't pick Gala first because it isn't really an album - it was really a compilation of their first three EPs for the American audience. Additionally, although it has some of my favorite Lush songs on it - "Sweetness and Light", "Thoughtforms" (the Mad Love version not the weak Scar version) and "Breeze", as a complete work I think both Spooky and Split are stronger.

I didn't pick Spooky mainly because the band so disliked the production of it themselves, and even though I think it's their strongest release I can agree that it's pretty subdued under Robin Guthrie's heavy-handed treatment. Even he admits that he messed up a lot of stuff at that time of his career.

Split took quite a while to grow on me to be honest, but I think there's some fine stuff there as well. I'm much less enthused about Lovelife however, although with time I've enjoyed that more also.

I could talk about these bands all day. I was rather smitten with them for a long time.

yeah, i always forget about "gala" being a collection... i suppose i'd have to settle for "spooky". i do enjoy "split" as well, of course.

however, i'm not really into curve or the catherine wheel... i love the boo radleys, moose, and swervedriver though.
