DLC charts week of 6/2 (Coheed, Phish, Ben Harper, Shooter Jennings, TV on the Radio)

    Good morning folks,

Another day, another dollar, the saying goes... and so like that saying, so shall a new one be coined; "Another week, another ton of Rock Band DLC from Harmonix". Okay, maybe it's a bit more involved and wordy than the first, but it still holds true! This week we've got a six-pack from the Bonnaroo festival, including two tracks from perennially-requested fan favorites Coheed & Cambria, alongside the Rock Band debut of well-known jam band Phish, and three additional singles to round out the pack from Ben Harper & Relentless7, Shooter Jennings, and TV on the Radio. As usual, if the chart you're looking for isn't up yet, check back later, as I will be adding links to YouTube throughout the day as the charts go up.

One quick word before I start; as most of you probably know, last week the YouTuber and RB community member Npeaen (who had been previewing the DLC charts for expert guitar since, like, FOREVER) was unceremoniously suspended from YouTube. I'm sure many of you had been wondering who would take the reins on this, or if he would return... well, all I have to say is, if you value the guitar charts, you may want to go ahead and subscribe to Nalopean now. I'm sure he'd appreciate it!

    And now, without further ado...

Thanks to the following YouTubers for this week's charts: Nalopean (guitar charts), corporalgregg2 (full band charts), Jarr3tt88RB (drum charts), elilasol (Coheed & Cambria and Phish vox charts), oldpsy (all other vox charts), and yours truly (bass charts). Full band videos will be replaced with single instrument videos as they become available. Tiering information is provided on a 0-6 scale relating to the Rock Band 2 tiers; 0 = no dots, 1 = one dot, etc., and 6 = devil horns.

As always, hope this helps you make wise decisions in your DLC purchasing!

Thoughts on this week's charts; bass was, overall, simple yet fun. This was the first week in a while where I've gotten a full batch of FCs on my sightreads.

With only a couple of exceptions, most songs has a lot of fretboard movement that kept my left hand working, and while they were for the most part strumathons, there were also a few HOPO sequences thrown in to keep things interesting. The best one in that regard was, undoubtedly, "Wilson (Live)" by Phish. The comparisons to the Grateful Dead and Mother Hips definitely seem apt; the bassline was a whole lot of fun to play. I also really enjoyed the track by Shooter Jennings, which although easy, was a fun riff to jam out to.

The weakest links in this pack for bass were Coheed & Cambria's "A Favor House Atlantic" and TV on the Radio's "Wolf Like Me"; they both fell victim to repetitive root note strum-strum-strumming and were not all that interesting or intriguing. However, Coheed's guitar chart more than makes up for the weak bass chart, and TV on the Radio's song is great to listen to (even though it's not that much fun to play on bass, I plan on checking out more of their stuff). I do have to mention that "Wolf Like Me"'s guitar chart is a right bastard, though; lots of jerky altstrumming with chord changes reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World's "Lucky Denver Mint". Good luck trying to keep a combo throughout the length of it (my strumming hand gave way after about a minute of it).

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the entire pack, though your mileage may vary depending upon how much you like the songs musically.

    Drums

-A Favor House Atlantic - Pretty fun, if somewhat simple.

The Running Free - NO WAY IS THIS TIER 4. Tier 3 would be more appropriate. Fun song, more going on than AFHA, but still quite simple.

Wolf Like Me - This is my favourite song of this decade. Srsly, it is awesome. The drum chart introduces a new pattern that'll either be fun or frustrating for you(I loved it.) The mid-song breakdown is awesome as well, with a really fun pattern. It gets repetitive, but the groove is just incredible. Vox are epic as well.

Shimmer and Shine - Drum Solo with a simple pattern which leads into a very epic fill. Patterns throughout are pretty easy, but the fills are great.

Wilson (Live) - Lots of variety on the main beat, with lots of off-beat bass and snare work. Lots of sextuplet fills and some that are really out of time, but still doable. Definitely the best drum song this week.

Haven't played the Shooter song yet, but it sounds pretty good.

I recommend Wolf Like Me (Watch the video first, as the pattern may be frustrating for you,) Shimmer and Shine, and Wilson (Live,) in that order. Still, not a bad song this week.

WOLF LIKE ME FTW. I requested this and two of the three Franz songs ages ago, and HMX has delivered. Thanks, although a TVOTR Pack and a Deerhunter Pack in the near future would be awesome. .

    Thanks as always S1cK

Phish track looks amazing. I would have like a slightly longer intro for it though. I remember how epic that intro was when i saw them live. It seemed to go on forever with people chanting WIIIIIIILSOOOOOOON.

Looks like a painless week for expert guitar, which is nice after all the devil-face songs that have been released

Painless, except for the ass-tastic altstrumming that's in Wolf Like Me on expert guitar. Good luck trying to keep combo with that.

I was listening to that on my iPod earlier and thought it sounded a bit tricky, but I`m looking forward to trying it when I get home from work
