    At 3:30 in that video, have a look folks, that would be stars in the song select menu.
    Gives you both your star count and your score.
    Also looks like it indicates the difficulty in which you scored those stars (in looking at the "M")


    Ooooh... and at 4:53, that would be a pause menu countdown
