Child-safe hard rock/prog rock/metal songs?

tbh, "child-safe" is stupid. One of my cousins heard BYOB on the radio and asked what was snatched out. His mother and I said "****" at the same time.

My 9-year-old cousin wants to start listening to some of the stuff I listen to, but much of my playlist isn't exactly child-safe, so it might stir up something with his parents. So, what hard rock/prog rock/metal songs that are child-friendly do you recommend?

I think your cousin can listen to your kind of music. I don't believe that listening to unchild safe songs at a young age is bad, its the parents that have to dissapline the child into saying "they're just lyrics, nothing more" It sounds like his parents have good parenting skills and can trust your cousin to listen to your kind of music.

But if you dont agree with me on that, try Rush or The Beatles or someother band from the 60's or 70's. Disturbed has a few songs that dont have to much bad stuff in their lyrics.

Why are songs about shagging considered 'child-safe' but political themes not...

Actually, I don't have, particularly, problems with kids listening to songs with political themes, and I find a lot of songs with those themes "child-safe". However, with some metal that goes political, they also tend to either break out the potty mouth, or get into imagery that might not work so well for kids. Just going by profanity content, One by Metallica is fairly child-safe. As far as the imagery is concerned, it's horrific - deliberately so (and for a good reason), and I could see a kid being disturbed or generally creeped out by it.

As far as songs with sexual themes... well, the songs on that topic that are more likely to be child-safe, will also have to be more subtle about it.

As it is, both the politically active songs and the songs about sex will probably go over kids' heads anyway. At the very least, the songs about sex will probably be mistaken for a "love song" instead of anything else.

Heck, I didn't know what Young Lust by Pink Floyd was about until I was in middle school.

There are more than enough 9 year old Dragonforce fans than the world will ever need. Like others, I suggest Pink Floyd. I also think Supertramp is a good idea.

Why are songs about shagging considered 'child-safe' but political themes not...

My favorite songs by these bands are about a kid who loves his teacher, playing a rock concert, explosives, and Scaramoush doing the Fandango. How are those not child appropriate?
