Things must have changed somewhere down the line.
I've never done the ESL online, but I've done several tour set lists. A player disconnects, we fail. We start the song again with the missing player still gone, we fail. We then have to cancel gig which starts us over.
There have also been several horror stories here where a player disconnects and they can't continue without failing.
But hey, if I'm wrong...all the better for you and I wish you luck on your ESL run.

Drake is right, you can finish the ESL with disconnected players, but the flip side is you won't have their help if you need them down the road (ie Visions). Having to stop from D/Cs is a misconception.
If you restart the song with the missing player still gone and you still fail, it's because you failed the song. Had nothing to do with the missing player, it doesn't make it easier to fail.
