The lumberjack kind would just be obnoxious, just a thin knee high sock would do the job. There are certain situations where socks CAN be worn with heels however.

I dont really wear heels all that often, i'm more of a flip flop shoes kinda gal. I wear heels maybe once every few months, and even then they arent huge heels, 3'' at most. I wear them because they match my outfit, not because they make me taller (although I am only 5'2). Heels do hurt, but you get used to it. The taller the heel, the more it hurts.
