Until we hear from Sony, we cannot assume either way.
Much of the reason this is possible is due to the already established XNA Creator's Club. It's an efficient way for hobbyist/independent developers to more easily create entertainment for the Xbox 360; check it out.

I think it's great that Harmonix is going to add some over to PS3 too, but I wouldn't expect much more. It's not exclusivity, more like possibility at this point.
Thank you Harmonix for Rust in Peace.

Sean said they're working, and have been working with Sony and Nintendo to try to make everything equal across all 3 consoles, they just don't have the development tools readily available like Microsoft has XNA at the moment.

Most of the work will be done on a computer, correct. You use the XBOX for reviewing your work.

Joining in late here, haven't read the entire thread. Just want to add that I think this is a fabulous idea. This is a legitimate outlet for indie bands to market their songs to a potentially huge audience. People that keep noting that "nobody is interested in no-name indie bands" don't get it.

These bands don't need to sell a million downloads for this to be successful. And most songs that get put up on the RBN will not sell all that well. But you know there will be those no-name bands that put a song up that strikes a chord with folks and suddenly the band becomes a household name (think Dragonforce).

Also, there are a huge number of indie bands with small, but very loyal, passionate audiences. Bob Schneider is virtually unknown in most of the music world but can sell out virtually any mid-size hall in Texas. If his songs were up on the RBN I guarantee they would sell moderately well. That's to name one of dozens, perhaps hundreds of bands that enjoy that type of support.

Maybe the RBN fizzles and proves a bad idea. But I doubt it. I think it becomes a prominent outlet for unknown and little-known bands to market their efforts. This goes further than anything previously in solidifying the idea of RB as a platform for music.

Great idea..can't wait to see it in action.

I imagine different music companies hiring a few programmers to put out songs every week. Each major music label should hire a department of people to do this work. I would think it would be a relatively cheap way to get the music out.

I hope Harmonix is actively getting after record companies with all the benefits of this. I am sure it is practically a done deal with some companies!!!

We have been talking to all first-party partners for a while. This is not a surprise to anyone.

"Sub Pop Records head of A&R Tony Kiewel says the label is expecting to submit songs from its upcoming fall releases as well as its bigger releases from the past two years."

Just quoted that from BillBoard. Some bands you might want to note that are in that Label:
    Band of Horses
    Death Cab for Cutie
    Dinosaur Jr.
    Hellacopters
    Hot Hot Heat
    L7
    Modest Mouse
Nirvana(they said past 2 years but still!)
    Reverened Horton Heat
    Sreaming Trees
    Sleater-Kinney
    Sonic Youth
    Soundgarden
    Sunny Day Real Estate
    The Shins
    The White Stripes

    EXCELLENT!

And boo-hoo at all that research i put into my last post being false. :'(

I would really like to know what this means for the PS3 in the future!
