    Literature Thread

I said in the Twilight thread I was going to do this, so here it is. I know threads of this sort have been made before, but they've always faded away, so I hope this one sticks.

Basically, you can discuss anything about literature here, whether it be your favorite author, books you're currently reading or have read, books you want to read, or asking other forum-goers for recommendations.

Although I haven't read much of his work in a while, J.R.R. Tolkien is still my favorite author. Besides The Lord of the Rings, he created an immense mythology around Middle-earth which is quite enjoyable.

Currently, I'm reading a collection of short stories by H.P. Lovecraft, and once I finish those, I'll probably start The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett.

Jeffrey Brown's: Unlikely or How I Lost My Virginity is one of the best books I've ever read. I'll also recommend Craig Thompson's Blanket's and Alex Robinson's Box Office Poison.

Currently reading Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men
Album wish list: Black Sabbath, Queen II, Static Age, Ride the Lightning, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

I've been reading since I was a wee lad (The Hobbit was my first "real" book when I was 10). So I have a 20+ year collection of books ranging from true literature to pulp fiction. I just plain enjoy reading, whether it be a mind-boggling delve into the human psyche, or a completely whimsical tale of sorcery and adventure.

One of my favorite genres that I don't think gets nearly enough publicity is travel humor. Love 'em. By far my favorite is "Round Ireland with a Fridge" by Tony Hawks (not the skateboarder). "A Walk Through the Woods" by Bill Bryson is another good one.

Otherwise, I could list off hundreds of books that I consider my favorites, but I won't bore you with all of them.

I've heard of Bill Bryson before, but never read any of his books. I'll have to check out the one you mentioned.

I'm right now going through The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I'm just about done with the second of seven books; The Drawing of the Three. I'm about to start reading The Waste Lands. Very interesting story, I'd recommend it to anyone.

I don't really read that often, which could explain the "simplicity" of some of my favorites. But I really enjoyed A Separate Peace, the perks of being a wallflower, and Catcher in the Rye.

Also, I read Animal Farm, and found the last paragraph to be pretty haunting. Also, really loved Of Mice and Men
