Just got a new console, but i dont have the rock band disc yet? Is is still possible to download songs and play them without the CD?

yes you can download songs before the disk, but You still need the disk to play them.

What shadowracer says is true in regards to current DLC, but I don't know if this'll be possible with the RBN. It depends on whether or not the RBN material will be available in the XBL Marketplace.

You need the Rock Band 2 game disc in order to play songs released through the RBN. Rock Band (the original game) is not compatible.
