However, using that same logic, if retailers didn't want things stolen, couldn't they just design their stores to be more theif-proof?
Not quite the same analogy really.

If the export is allowed without proof of ownership via a one time code linked to the profile that redeems it and the disc it is associated to then it is not stealing. Stealing would be somehow bypassing the code that was intended to prevent export without ownership.

When HMX employees design the export to work without ownership and then encourage the same export without ownership here on the forums, talking RB1 here, than no one has to right to accuse anyone of stealing anything because it is not theft...period.

Now, I realize this thread was made in the hopes that someone from HMX would see it and maybe answer the question, which is unlikely, but, if they did answer the question and posted that a purchase was not required and that they developed the exposrt key to specifically allow for export without ownership, would you guys then get off your high horses regarding this supposed "theft"? If you say yes, then lay off because they essentially did that for RB1 and yet people still try and degrade individuals who rented/borrowed RB1 and then exported.

    Agreed.

This thread is going nowhere good quickly, is actively supporting piracy, and will not get the answers sought just yet.

    It is, therefore, completely useless.

As I said, I don't really have a problem with RB1, because of the situation. But we're not talking RB1 here, we're talking Lego Rock Band.

I don't care about RB1, it was a different animal, and that's why I'm getting more than a little annoyed when people keep saying "HMX supports it!"

Shoot, if you are talking DVDs and CDs then, technically speaking, you never own the content. It is explicitly illegal to rip MP3s and MPEG videos from CDs and DVDs, regardless of whether or not you rented them or bought them.

But if they allow export of Lego in the same manner as RB1 how is the exportability now somehow able to be seperated from their condoning of it?

If they don't want people to rent n rip then they won't include an export key that allows it, like RB1.

If they do want people to rent n rip then they will include the exact same type of export key as RB1.

Pretty simple really. It's not like their is some sort of technilogical barrier preventing the use of one type of export over the other, it is a concious choice by HMX.

What he completely forgets is that you pay for a license for use of the content from the disc in RB2.

The rental place gets their disc back. You pay for the right to play those songs in RB2.

There is no piracy involved. Just peoples over inflated sense of morality.

If it's cheap and you can export all, I will probably rent it, play it a little, export the songs, then send it back. It's like getting a really really cheap track pack.
I'm sure there is going to be a code so you can only do it once like the track packs. Still a better deal than buying the dlc separately.

And it is the same with Video Games too. Even you export, you don't own that content.

So, tell me, why are DVDs and CDs any different?

You've been brainwashed by the RIAA. It's perfectly legal under "fair use". If it were illegal, do you really think Apple would include this feature in iTunes?
