    You missed the Meters! Other than that I would add Galactic and Orgone for great new funk bands.

    I don't really have a favorite funk artist. I like listening to different styles of funk depending on what I'm feeling.

    Soror: I'm defining funk with this list as being kind of "roots" funk-the stuff that's bonafied, unquestionable funk-to-the-bone. In retrospect, that probably means I shouldn't have put Curtis Mayfield on, but the point is: If there's any question as to the funkiness whatsoever, it wasn't included. Maybe I'll do a best "funk crossover" list next time.

    The P-Funk. (Yes, they're one band....separating them is like separating Hall from Oates. It's criminal.)

    You just don't get any funkier than George Clinton. Not even James Brown....who I'd shuffle off into the Soul category (he's the Godfather of Soul, not Funk). Clinton is the Godfather of Funk.
