are you pressing the sync button on the guitar and then pressing the sync button on the xbox?

you need to do this the first time you connect.

edit - if your not using the xbox version i am not sure

Yeah, sorry should have also maybe mentioned that I am playing the Wii version. Do I need to press them both at the same time?

I am not completly sure to be honest mate for the wii , but i just looked it up and found this.

5. The Guitar

- If the receiver is working correctly, it should be flashing a BLUE light (NOT red)

- If your guitar is switched ON, there are three things you need to do:
A. Make sure the Guitar and the Receiver have a clear line of sight to each other.
B. Hit the button on the receiver. It's the only button there.
C. Hit the SMALL WHITE BUTTON on the guitar, that is in the place where the Amp Cord would normally go.
