I'll be very happy with this if you can then not only play as that character, but also use all the PARTS of that character in the create-a-rocker

Afraid nobody 'round here

They think I'm only a spud boy

I think the difference between this and the GH situation is unlike Guitar Hero with its reputation for shady ethical practices and product placement that may make it look like an artist is selling out, Lego's have a reputation of their own.
They bring up memories of innocence and childhood, and not commercialism or tacky over the top money grabbing. (I have nothing but respect for most of the living artists that have appeared in GH to date though, I'm pretty sure most of them are too hard working to really notice the things we do)
Lego has proven themselves brilliant at provinding their unique brand of humor parody to some very sacred works of entertainment (Look at Lego: Batman, Star Wars, and Indana Jones) and despite being a tad formulaic no ones ever knocked them for what they've done by bridging a gap between the children of today and the classic works that came before their time. Having a musician show up on Lego: Rock Band is more akin to having their song parodied by Weird Al Yankovic than being used in a Jean commercial (Yes I'm aware of Iggy's rep as of late and the jean commercial)
Lego Rock band won't tarnish an artist's reputation. More likely than not the other way around (I keep waiting for Lego Iggy to start cutting up his chest and watching little red lego bricks start pouring onto the stage)
It's nice to have Harmonix officially label me as Obsessive-Compulsive rather than just hearing it from my friends.
I think using real-life musicians in any music game is kind of tacky. In a game like Lego Rock Band where making your own characters is going to be a big part of the game's experience, it's especially distracting and pointless. I get that it contributes somewhat to the atmosphere of the game being a silly take on rock music, but I think it's something that needed to stay a Guitar Hero feature.
I don't like this and if it's a big part of the game I'm just going to wind up spending a lot less time playing the songs on the disc. I'll export and toss it over my shoulder if it's going to be like this.
