As someone who has been playing on Hi-Def on a 42" flatscreen, I can tell you it was worth every penny I sunk into it. Total immersion.

I have pretty much done the same thing already (well, with the non-slim PS3 anyway) to get a better experience with Rock Band 2. I would definitely suggest getting the PS3. It is really nice not having to deal with the storage limitations of the Wii. I really haven't used it that much for other games, but I use the web browser all of the time (primarily because it's compatible with Pandora). The system is great for playing movies, and you can download free game demos for plenty of games.

I would say yes. Also, getting 8-10 games isn't terribly little. I got a 360 just for RB1, and the only games I have are RB1, RB2, TBRB, and the Orange Box. Besides, it's probably good to have a more powerful alternative to the Wii but still keep the Wii.
HMX, I love you. You introduced me to my favorite band, The Beatles. And now you're making a game for my first favorite, Green Day. Thank you so much

I bought the PS3 just for GTA4 when it first came out (I was not going to pay for XBox Live), and I was fine with that decision because I didn't have a Blu-ray player. I already had a Wii, but I really consider the Wii to be more geared towards delivering unique gaming experiences. For games that are released cross-platform, it makes much more sense to buy the game for PS3 unless the Wii version offers something really cool and unique in terms of control.

So if a PS3 isn't going to break the bank for you and you think you'll get enough enjoyment and use out of it, then go for it. Thing to keep in mind is that the controllers you get for TB:RB kinda lock you into a platform for when you decide to branch out to RB1 or RB2 or even the GH series.

    Yes it makes sence.

The Wii has too many limtations.

Sure it works but its third place in a three horse race.

Before the Wiifolk get all riled up, I do own all three consoles so I am just speaking from direct, hands on experience. Not from a defensive posture based on what I own.

The Wii is great for Wii style games and classic Nintendo stuff.

Get a PS3, you wont regret it.
All I am offering is the truth... nothing more...

As someone that has all 3 consoles I would say get either a PS3 or 360 for the music game genre, the Wii's limited DLC abilities and lack of a import function make it a poor choice for the music game genre. 360 seems slightly better supported than PS3 by both Neversoft and Harmonix. Take a look at the Xbox 360 Elite.

Well I'm not into DLC that much so I'd bet my 8GB SDHC card for Wii is plenty enough.

Thanks for the correction about X360 BTW. So the fee is for online gaming and not for downloading DLC, system updates and such. Still, X360 is not wireless (my router is in another room), it's reported to be very noisy and it does have that HW reliability issue. On the other hand, PS3 Slim has been reported to be noisy as well.

It does seem that neither of the HD consoles are good choices right now... Especially if I'm getting for a only handful of games (or one game).

I think I'm going to buy the Wii version.

The HW reliability issue, as I understand it, is all but gone--I wouldn't know because my 360 has actually lasted me two years and change without trouble. The noise is definitely there, though.

If you absolutely, positively have to get an HD console to play RB (and the games you've listed are multiplatform, as well), I'd suggest the 360 since that's the primary development platform.

However, I think you're making the right choice, budgetarily, to go for the Wii version.

I ate my own words and ordered a PS3 Slim. My reasons... Well putting gaming aside it just made sense. I do own a BD-player (Sony S550) but my parents need one too (they currently have my Oppo dvd-player). I'm going to give my BD-player to them, have Slim do the BD stuff and use my trusty Oppo for playing DVDs (I have DVDs of different regions so I can't use Slim for that anyway). I'm a little worried about the loudness of Slim but hopefully it won't be too loud.

Now I can get TB:RB (PS3) with a bit better graphics and sound, and I can use my instruments with my friends' PS3s.
