How can lyrics not be deep but be meaningful? They're practically synonyms.

Also, OK. If you don't listen to "Fireflies", that's cool, but what if you brought up examples to reinforce your meaningful lyrics comment? Just curious to see what you can find.

Okay,I messed up by "deep" i meant "creative" hence:

"Please take a long hard look through your text book
'Cause I'm history" - Cave In by Owl City

"I'll watch the night turn light-blue
But it's not the same without you
Because it takes two to whisper quietly" - Vanilla Twilight by Owl City

    I guess creativity IS subjective...

So a friend of mine was at the concert, and he saw the guy from Owl City. He went up to him and said "I like your music" The guy then said "I get that a lot" and walked off.
Not removing this until we get some Sunn O)))
in which case this will be on for a while.

Surprised at the disdain you guys have for them (or rather him?). I actually think that Owl City has some of the best lyrics in (recent) pop music. Adam has a voice to get used to, and once you do, you can really appreciate the music, and I'll admit skepticism for the electronic sound at first, due to the overflow of such music lately. It's not super deep or serious, nor is it completely obnoxious, vulgar, or just plain stupid (such as the atrocious crunk crap that is 3OH!3). It's nice, pleasant, gentle, and, in some cases, can make one feel like a kid again, with the silliness of such songs as "Dental Care" or the wonder of the world subconsciously captured in "Cave In".

Still, I hate the radio for raping "Fireflies" to death with overplay. It's not even their (his) best song, yet everyone calls it the best song ever (since it's the only one they even know), but eventually some rapper or pop artist will come out with a new song the next week or so, and they'll switch gears in a snap.

I want to feel sorry for your friend, but he kinda deserves whatever he gets after saying something like that.

I love the Pitchfork review for Fireflies.

"Seriously, stop listening to this song and and just ask her the **** out already."

Those lyrics count as creative? Looks like someone needs to listen to a few songs by Modest Mouse, Pavement and The National...
It's good to be happy. There's no hope.
