I never disliked the Beatles, but I wasn't a big fan like I am now, about a year ago I saw Love in Vegas and even had front row seats and from then on its been nothing but the Beatles for me.![]()
My aunt. She LOVES the Beatles so should always be playing them. I used to sing them so much I got called "The Beatles kid" at school by the older kids.
No one. I discovered them of my own volition in late high school.![]()

hmmm...I never really thought about it, but the damn Beatles have permeated pretty deeply into my life.
Until I was probably 18, my only exposure to The Beatles was radio, which I did my best to not listen to. I generally knew the music I liked, and I was all in favor of the methods that allowed me to listen to *music*, not commercials, so I played a lot of tapes, a lot of cd's, and a few eight tracks my dad had lying around. So to this point, I don't know much about The Beatles.
And here we go...I start dating this girl. I missed The Beatles phenomenon, being born in 1977. She is 5 years younger than I am, so I was pretty surprised when she started telling me that I should really listen to some of their music. I was slightly resistant, just wasn't really into it. She took her time, and decided to get me into another band I like a lot now, Cake. Then she circled back around, using her mom to Help! guilt me into it...literally.
So she is a big Beatles fan because her mother was a big Beatles fan. Incidentally, her father can't really stand them. I went over to her place one evening with no real plans but to just hang out. This would have been summer of 1999, so she was just starting her senior year of high school, and therefore was living with her parents.
We have dinner, and her mom says something along the lines of "Have you seen the movie "Help!"?" to which I obviously replied "haven't even heard of it". They insist that I stay to watch it. Which I did...
I'm not even sure I liked it the first time. I remember loving the dry humor and cracking up at the backhanded jokes, but overall, I left feeling sorta unsure of what I thought of it. Well, long story short, I watched it again a couple of weeks after that, and was hooked. So, I picked up the Help! soundtrack. Then "well, I've heard good things about this Abbey Road album, I'll give that a shot".
Well, within a couple of days I owned everything I could get my hands on and was loving it all. Bought and watched the Anthology collection and gained a deeper appreciation for them.
Fast forward 8 years, and we're getting married. Now, maybe she had been planning this for years, and kudos to her if she pulled it off while making me think it was my idea, but we couldn't decide what to do for music for the wedding. We had a lot of friends get married over the preceding 5 years or so, and everything just seemed...used up. Overdone... repetitive.
Anyways, at one point we were talking about a recessional, and we wanted something nice and cheery...summery. So she asked me what song always put me in a good mood, or just seemed happy and fun. I was sort of stuck in the "classical" music rut, and said something like "we need to make friends with someone who can arrange music, then we could just have them do an arrangement of Here Comes The Sun for the recessional."
Well, turns out a friend of her parents does just that. We checked with the church and they said it wouldn't be a problem to have music that wasn't "churchy", so we ran with it.
She walked down to "Here, There, and Everywhere".
Her uncle performed "Calico Skies" for one of the solos during the service. (We had him chop it up a bit, omitting the verse regarding soldiers/war, just seemed better for the occasion that way)
And we walked out to "Here Comes The Sun".
Save the solo, the songs were rearranged and had no vocals, so they weren't just bashing down the door yelling "I'M A BEATLES SONG DAMMIT!!!", most people had no idea The Beatles had anything to do with our wedding. A few people asked, mentioning they saw the Lennon/McCartney credit for Here, There, and Everywhere. No one seemed to draw the connection to poor "Harrison" though, so I'm sure people didn't automatically think of it as overrun by Beatles.
They recorded the wedding, so once in a while I pop in the CD and listen to our custom Beatles tunes and remember how much fun we had that day.
Then, a couple of years later, you guys push out this game and I bought it for her for her birthday (well, that's what I tell her. I would have owned it either way, Joey Pags got me into Rock Band a while ago!). Having a ton of fun with the game, and hope to see some of the great DLC in the future!

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is probably solely responsible for getting me into the Beatles. Yep, one of their cover songs. Thanks, John Hughes!
Also, junior year in high school I had a teacher that spent a few weeks going through all of the "Paul is dead" wackiness, which held my interest because of how numerous the absurdities were. We'd spend a day on each album from Rubber Soul onwards going over all of the "hints" in the lyrics and album art. That was probably the only thing I vividly remember from high school. Well, that and causing a fire in the chem lab, but who hasn't done THAT? Right? Anyone? ... Bueller?
I heard about the release of "1" and I was like "Hey, me. I should start getting into The Beatles." So, I bought the CD and that's it.
