My actual favorite book is the Houston County, Georgia Phonebook. It magically knows all the phone numbers like magically or something.

It's a tie between The Godfather, One Hundred Years of Solitude, the His Dark Materials series and probably a few others.

And I must say that while Dr. Seuss is undeniably the greatest writer in history, my favourite would have to be Haruki Murakami. Seriously, go pick up either Kafka on the Shore or The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle the next time you see them in your' local bookstore.

I'm working on the new Dan Brown novel (seriously, why do I keep doing this to myself?), but so far it's pretty much crap. Over half the book and I'm still being force fed pages and pages of backstory and exposition.

I'll have to bump the Gaiman book up to the next spot in the list to make up for this... blandness.

Also, while I haven't finished it yet, I'm getting the feeling that this is going to be one of the most ridiculously predictable books I've ever read, but I've just come to expect the whole "Bad guy is actually a good guy, but the good guys are actually bad guys" thing from him.

I love Dante's Inferno, and I just started reading Common Sense from Glenn Beck today. Pretty good stuff.

The Conquest of Gaul and The Civil War (Julius Caesar) were both great, but then again I’m a history buff. In this same vain Papillon was great too. (Who wouldn’t love the true tale of one of the only men to escape from Devils island?)

I’m also a huge horror fan. Other than the classics like Poe and Lovecraft, I’m also into writers like King and Barker. And Richard Matheson is nothing short of a god.

Ever tried The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. Along with Dorian it’s a great example of early horror and is arguably one of the best (and smartest) “haunted house” stories ever.

A few have stood out above all others to me: the Canterbury Tales, Hitchhiker's Guide the Galaxy (first couple books only), Lord of the Rings trilogy, Catcher in the Rye.

I rather liked Life of Pi too, up until the ending.
