Favorite metal subgenre?

I feel like such stadium parking lot trash after saying that, but it's all good. Just about the only metal sub-genre I'm not really a fan of is progressive metal.

Thrash, doom and sludge are up there.

Nu-metal is totally ****ing hardcore too.

To be honest, I shouldn't really single out progressive metal. I'm not really a fan of metal (or really any other type of music) that emphasizes technical wizardry over songwriting, period.

i'm with runesmith, though there are some prog metal bands i like (hammers of misfortune, voivod, etc.).

Im surprised super narrow and small categories like gothic and industrial are over doom metal. Besides, sludge metal is a subfusiongenre of doom metal.

That is why I voted 'other' for doom. I think it's especially surprising, though, considering the overall love for it around these parts.

I like some prog. metal, but I dislike power the most.

I'd pick hair over power definitely, and maybe over prog.

That's sort of my bad. I was trying to think of which term was more all-encompassing and I picked sludge. I guess that was a mistake, though. Sorry!

...sludge metal it is. Honorable mention goes to stoner, doom, and Gothic.
