I do believe that Heavy Metal and Metal are one and the same thing.

Most people (me included) group heavy metal as proto-metal, proto-doom metal, and NWOBHM. It's a subjective classification, although you can argue otherwise perhaps.

I just think of Metal as Heavy Metal but with a dropped H, but instead you drop a whole word.

I like power metal a lot. Not more than Death metal though.

there are very few power metal bands i enjoy, but it still beats out gothic metal (i don't think i like any goth metal bands) and is somewhere around prog metal and industrial metal (both of which only have a few bands i dig).

I like some power bands, but not in any large numbers. Not consistent enough to rank them higher.

I think that's true for a lot of people.
