Are we done getting full albums?

I remember when Harmonix first announced that we'd be getting full album downloads of classics, iconic, or important albums. But in the past year, we've only had one album announced that fits that description (Ten) and 3 others released that are new/promotional (Chinese Democracy, Backspacer, and Back From The Dead*). It's been nearly 6 months since we got the last "classic" album release, and in that time we've gotten two "greatest hits" packages from bands that could've benefited from full album releases.

I hope Harmonix hasn't abandoned full (classic/iconic) albums because I really enjoy playing the deeper cuts from some of my favorite albums in the game.

    Your thoughts?

    Highly doubtful.

It's all about sales, best ofs sell better than an album. Example If we were getting Hendrix we would probably get a best of Hendrix instead of are the experience.

For starters, Back from the Dead was not an album release. And I don't see why Chinese Democracy wouldn't be considered somewhat iconic given how long the dang things been in the works. I mean, that alone is downright legendary.

To continue on this train of thought, you've forgotten both Texas Flood and Nothing's Shocking which were released in 2009. Within the past 12 months (Oct 2008-Oct 2009), we can add The Colour and the Shape, The Singles, and Dr. Feelgood.

So remind me again why we're getting paranoid?

Chinese Democracy is a classic and iconic album...may not be the most praised album but its history alone makes it a classic.

So does Back from the Dead. Spinal Tap is a classic band and Back from the Dead is just the old stuff reinvented.

Backspacer is from a classic band.

Plus are you forgetting about Texas Flood AND Nothing's Shocking? Both classic albums. You could also consider Flight 666 an album as well.

I really doubt we've seen the end of albums. It just happens to be a dry spell at the present. Here are a few reasons why we might be album-light lately:

It seems like buyers have signalled that they like these "best of" packs, and that has been the recent trend... Iron Maiden, No Doubt, Queen, and so on. Imagine the feedback if we had gotten a single album from any of these guys and skipped over their other great collective works.

Also there seems to have been a trend toward more diversity, with lots and lots of singles from a broad spectrum of artists, which trends away from the album model.

Also, it's not the easiest thing to find an album with 4 good instrument parts, usable masters, lots of popular songs, and few filler songs.

Back from the Dead has an asterisk because we got most of the songs from the album in one way or another except for the jazz odyssey songs. In addition, the tap ten pack has the same tracklist and includes all songs from Spinal Tap's debut album.

And I specifically said "announced". The albums you mention were announced in August of 2008. Since then only Dr. Feelgood and Ten have been announced, besides the "non-classics" already mentioned.

So we haven't heard anything about an iconic album being released since January of 2009, when Ten was announced.

This seems like a strange thread to start on a week where we get a Queen 10 pack and the Abbey Road album.
