    Need some 2009 albums

i need some relatively mainstream 2009 albums. I'm doing reviews for a school project.

By mainstream I mean an artist that most people would recognize and is pretty popular, like Green Day. Not necessarily whatever is played on the radio. some artists that would fit here are Linkin Park and Alice in Chains.

    thanks

This thread is dedicated to the discussion of 2009 albums. To actually point you in the right direction, I'd recommend Dinosaur Jr.'s Farm and Neko Case's Middle Cyclone. They're nothing too weird and they're pretty straightforward albums, but they're still excellent, and among my favorite albums of the year, too.
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

@Hungry: I kind of need artists that a majority of mainstream listeners would recognize the names of and would actually enjoy... thought some albums in there are fairly recognizable...

@AC: Thanks, I'll check them out

You'll probably reach the same conclusion there. Live a little and review something offbeat that no one you know knows (including yourself)!

Dont worry, i'm all for listening to new music, but for this group project, i'm working with someone incompetent and ignorant who refuses to listen to anything even kind of off-beat, and i don't really want to do all of the work on the project alone... so yeah.

    Punch him in the throat?

Seriously, though, I don't know how mainstream you're talking. Do you mean "played on the radio" mainstream or is it okay if we require them to do even the most rudimentary research? For instance, a lot of the most popular bands in given genres released albums this year, but these aren't genres that get airplay - Dream Theater, for instance.

lemme clarify. By mainstream I mean an artist that most people would recognize and is pretty popular, like Green Day. Not necessarily whatever is played on the radio. some artists that would fit here are Linkin Park and Alice in Chains (i could actually use their new album, come to think of it.)

OK, so by mainstream, you mean mainstream rock radio (Linkin Park, Green Day) and popular "classic" (loose-fitting for 80s and 90s bands) rock, like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Van Halen, etc that released material this year. (Those last few bands don't apply).

Yeah. Basically bands that have a sound that can appeal to the masses (unlike indie or post-rock, etc. which will not appeal to as many) and have somewhat recognizable names.
