if the gallon of $2 gas keeps me going for just under 10 minutes instead of the 3 minute-long $1 gallon then i'm going $2, yo.

personally, i don't think of it economically since that's not the angle i'm coming from...
i simply don't like people trying to lecture or scrutinize others for choosing to price their goods the way they like.

The $2 song might not be the same song as the $1 but I can buy two of the $1 songs for the same price!

Personally I don't care. He can make them whatever price he wants. I'm ADVISING. I'm saying, I'm not buying songs over $1 unless they are a well known band or a band I know. This will be 95% of the RBN users. No skin off my back, one less sale for him.

Ok...what if you had equal 10 min on both? Would you still go for the $2? Same quality, same awesome.

I don't really know what I'm arguing about. I'm making a suggestion. I could give two ****s what the prices are. 95% of RBN will be casual players and won't buy $2 its a fact.

the entire discussion is about longer tracks being more valuable to players as well as a bigger investment to artists and charters, thus being a no-brainer to consider going up in price.

of course people are more likely to pay $1 for a song than $2, and anyone who has sunk the time and effort to get into the RBN will know that and will have surely made their decision knowing the probable reaction.

i'm personally totally fine with alienating casual players with my offerings to the RBN... video game ist kvlt.

Not only one, but two black metal songs, and two entirely different styles!
I'm extra excited for the one described as "athmospheric", because that's usually my favourite type of black metal.

It's all about quality. If someone buys your song for two dollars and feels ripped off, then it wouldn't have mattered if you charged one dollar or two. People will pay a reasonable price for excellent quality products. And if someone wants your songs, so long as that price isn't too high, they'll pay what you ask. I don't think the extra dollar will stop your target audience from purchasing your material.

Will it hurt casual sales? Probably, but so will bands they haven't heard of. Two dollars, to me, is a reasonable price for a long, complex song with a fun, challenging chart. Especially after I've spent two dollars on stuff from HMX that has been very easy, short, and forgettable.

Everyone's debating about $2 songs, and no one's brought up the point that there's a $3 (zomg!) option? Sigh.

And another thing - if a song is really fun, word of mouth will make sure that it's downloaded a lot, even with a steep $2 price tag. That'll help make the blow from low casual sales a little more bearable.

i would be all over the $3 option if they allowed songs longer than 10 minutes.

for my work i'm thinking any song 6 minutes or less will definitely be $1, 7 and 8 minute songs will probably be $2, and anything higher will definitely be $2.

if a song doesn't have all 4 necessary instruments (i do a fair amount of instrumentals) then it'll be $1 regardless of length.

i feel that would keep the majority of my material still in the $1 range so casuals just looking for a cheap ride will have plenty of options.
