    Across the Universe (Movie)

One of my friends had said the movie Across the Universe was amazing and it had a Beatles soundtrack. I watched a clip of the movie on youtube (I Want You (She's So Heavy)). Although interesting it just ruined the song for me and I can no longer play it in Beatles: Rock Band. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think you're referring to the cover version? Yeah, all the songs are covers. There are some odd ones... I Am the Walrus sung by Bono, a rather bad version of Hey Jude...

It's no reason to ruin the songs though... that's just an overreaction. If anything, it makes the songs better in comparison, at least for me. I suddenly appreciated Hello Goodbye much more after hearing the Jonas Brothers rendition of it.

    Cool

I listened to 10 seconds of the I Want You cover on YouTube and closed the browser and decided I wasn't going to watch the movie in its entirety.

I found the only cover worthwhile was I Am the Walrus, and even that I could have gone without hearing.

The whole movie is exceedingly, astoundingly stupid. Prudence (who later becomes one of Henry the Horse's waltzers), has a crush on the dude from Come Together, who at the time is boning Sexy Sadie. Jude comes off as an unfaithful jerk. It's all traumatic.
    Also, I have butter cookies!

I liked the movie: it took a weird idea and it accomplished it well. The music doesn't hold up well outside of the film, but I think in the context, it's fun to see characters communicate by singing Beatles lyrics. You'll find a lot of people on this forum hating both the film and the music, so this won't be a happy thread.

As for ruining the original song... I say get over it. The song is what it is.

Well yeah, saying THEY RUINED THE ORIGINAL SONG is kind of over dramatic. Sure, I didn't like the covers, but that doesn't mean it ruins the original.

I wouldn't call the renditions of the songs terrible. I see I Want You as more of a love song not so much of a political aspect (interesting though). Ruined is pretty harsh I'll just say it just reminds me of that scene whenever I hear the original

The only cover I really liked in the movie was I've Just Seen a Face. I always thought Paul's voice didn't fit the song. I also thought the Happiness is a Warm Gun cover was pretty good, and that Day In The Life guitar cover is awesome.

But the Revolution cover is horrendous. Do you have to moan the song?
