In the realm of music movies...its somewhere between Spiceworld and The Wall.

You have to be in the right mood for it. I like it, but it's very, very weird in a late 60's kind of way. My best advice would be to make some popcorn, relax, and just let the strangeness wash over you. Don't try to impose any more structure on the movie than what the story gives you. If you accept it for what it is, it's a lot of fun.

Look at the film as a lesson on art. I disagree with the poster that said that the animation is crude by today's standards. The animation includes a number of styles...compare the Eleanor Rigby sequence with that of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Both are exquisitely beautiful and far more visually interesting than recent high-tech crap like "Ice Age: The Meltdown".

If that explanation doesn't get it done, google '60s artists like Peter Max to see what experimentation they were up to. Read about op art and pop art and dada and impressionism and surrealism.

If that doesn't get it done, I'll meet you in the foothills of the headlands.

If you have the DVD, make sure you turn on the subtitles. I've watched it many times and missed a ton of jokes.

My favourite part is probably the "sea of holes" with the oh-so-cute Jeremy the Nowhere man (thing?). Can't forget John singing "All You Need is Love" to stop the Blue Meanies.

good, kids your age should not do drugs. (and remember, illegal drugs usually ruin your life more than legal drugs, not only because the drugs themselves (some illegal drugs are less dangerous than legal drugs), but because they are illegal and you can go to gaol (yes, they put people in gaol for using drugs, a victimless crime. don't think we own our own bodies)

I liked the movie very much. I found a lot of humor in the nonsensical plot and dialogue.
