Reaper has decided it wants me to pay for it, but I already have a much better (IMO) sequencer in the form of Cubase 4. Can I still use that to write tracks?
And if so, is there any way to transfer the RBN Preview effect to my other sequencer?

1) Yes, you can use any DAW for authoring
2) No, as of yet there's no method to transfer the RBN plugins, including the Preview window.

That sucks. Reaper recognizes it as a VST instrument, and Cubase's parent company pioneered them, so I figured there might be a way. Guess not.

You can continue using reaper indefinitely. The only hindrance is the pop up message on start up. Nothing is locked out or disabled.
What's a kuiosikle?

I use Sonar Producer Edition for all my tracking, so I'm in the same boat. I'm sure someone will come up with some user-friendly systems for other sequencers. I think Sonar might be able to make something work through their custom drum-mapping interface or something, though I haven't really looked into that feature yet.
