    Hard Drive question.

I'm a PS3 user and unfortunately I'm running out of space (i have a 40 gig HD). i wanted to know if it is possible to use an external HD on it. if so, how does it work. if not, does sony do HD upgrades, can they transfer what i have to another one, and what would it cost me. thanks in advance
    Full album wants:

    Hysteria- Def Leppard
    I Get Wet - Andrew W.K.
    Skid Row - Skid Row

You can't use an external HD for data or games, but the PS3 is designed to easily allow you to replace the internal HD. You will still need an external HD or thumbdrive larger than the used space on your current HD in order to make a backup of all of your data using the System Backup Tool under the System section of the XMB. Once you replace the HD, run the Tool again to restore your saved data (including downloaded content, save data, etc).

There's a very thorough thread over on the PS forums detailing how to choose and install a new internal HD here.

To provide more info, here is the page from the Sony Support site with clickable links to perform other functions. I didn't see anything about using external hdd. It might be in one of your manuals though
