Look whether the sales of the retail game are above, below, at, or wherever in regards to expectations, over 1 million in DLC downloads for just this game in 4 months says one thing: Release More DLC!!! I mean.........do the math. If each album truly costs "thousands" of dollars to make, each individual download is 1.99 (or multiplied out when you factor in people who buy entire albums,) I mean it seems pretty apparent that the DLC is making money. And then some.

If that 1 million download figure is accurate, how could they not release more?

The game had been in development for years. It was built from the ground up (as opposed to RB2, which lets be honest, was more a tweak of RB1 than an entirely new game). And the marketing campaign was very aggressive compared to the other Rock Band titles. I remember reading they had hoped the game would sell 1 million domestic in its first month alone. Instead it took all the way until Christmas to reach that mark.
    A few things.

    a. If Rock Band 2's sales were below expectations, you would think the next game, especially a game that is focused on one band would sell even less than that. The fact that it didn't is good news.

    b. They might have built this game from the ground up but I'm sure that they didn't loss money on that. This engine is going to be used on Green Day: Rock Band and possibly Rock Band 3 as well. It something that they would have to do eventually and if they lost money doing it, they will surely make the money back from the other games that use it.
