Microgenres and other devotions to precision.

The internet has brought the microgenre to most music fans' radar at this point, whether they're making snarks about how Opeth is the first blackened avant-death metal band or sifting through the latest chillwave on their favorite blogs.
I think most regulars here agree that smart use of these descriptors can be a blessing in finding new music, honing in on fairly specific styles and sounds. It's certainly easier to sample your punk buddy's favorite d-beat records rather than plunge into his entire collection to find something that sounds like Final Conflict.

In addition to microgenres, I think this thread could also serve as a haven for less formal collections of artists who exercise rigid focus, such as drum-guitar garage rock duos, groups exploring genre themes exclusively acappella, or power electronics artists consistently addressing specific serial killers in both their audio and visual output.

I would like this thread to become a place to go for these specialized recommendations, guides, lists, and discussions.
Help me get this going, y'all. I'd like this to go further than my krautrock and no wave threads.

You need to get Gowi in here, if anybody is willing to help out with micro genres, its him.

Okay, 1st update done. Next I'll go into classical and folk music, for sure.

I would like to get a color-code system going to separate canon material from personal favorites, but that will come at a later date if this thread does indeed become a useful tool in the first place.

The "Zolo" example you cited also has been referred to as "pronk" (a portmanteau whose construction should be pretty obvious once you listen to the song).

I thought Zolo and Pronk were two names for the same genre?

Might be, although I've only heard Pronk used before. (Then again, it's pretty obvious that I approach the genre decidedly from one side of it and not the other.)

SMAP, in my next update I'll add those with the exception of House, which is way too large to be a microgenre. I reckon I'll also throw in viking metal with the folk metal, since that's one strain I can occasionally dig.

As for pronk vs zolo, there's not a big difference and anyone invested in saying otherwise is being a bit of a stickler, but I reckon zolo's a bit more flavored by new wave than punk and regularly focused on absurdist humor and less "meat and potatoes" instrumentation.
I had personally never heard of either until the internet came along, though I'm thankful since "art punk" just isn't a satisfying descriptor for stuff like this.

So I'm not entirely sure how we're supposed to be contributing, but perhaps these?
